Liberal Studies Program Committee Minutes

September 27, 2005
Attendance: Debbie Wells, Jace Condravy,

Guests: Lynn Spadine-Taylor, Dr.
Maribeth Knaub, Randy Nichols, Dr. Joseph Cali, Connie Laughner,

L. Smith called the meeting to order at 2:04
p.m.
I. Old Business
A.
Approval of minutes from September
13, 2005
II. New Business
A.
Lynn Spadine-Taylor, chair of
the Physical Education Department, resubmitted a request for a
waiver of Liberal Studies credits that reflects the recent
reduction of three credit hours in the Enrichment area.
All approved,
motion passed.
B.
Maribeth J. Knaub, chair of the
Department of Music, resubmitted a request for a waiver of Liberal
Studies credits that reflects the recent reduction of three credit
hours in the Enrichment area.
1.
M. Knaub requested a waiver
continuation of 9 credits in the Liberal Studies goal areas of The
Arts (3), Global Community (3), and Science, Technology, &
Mathematics (3) in order to stay accredited with the National
Association of Music.
S. Parsons and
S. Sykora abstain, remaining committee members approve. Motion
Passed.
C.
Randy Nichols discussed a physical
education course (Wellness of the Modern Age) that will be
submitted to the LSPC in the near future.
1.
R. Nichols proposed his class
to the committee by stating that fitness and health are major
challenges in today’s society. He asked for feedback
and several committee members provided suggestions.
2.
R. Nichols will submit
Wellness of the Modern Age at the October 27, meeting.
D.
Joe Cali proposed that a health
course be moved into Human Institutions.
The committee
suggested that he help develop criteria with the Human Institutions
subcommittee and then use that criteria as a guide when submitting
the course.
E.
Progress reports were
received from each of the goal-area subcommittees. L. Smith noted
that the deadline for subcommittee work will be December 6,
2005.

C. Laughner- Presented the
new Liberal Studies Program booklet.
L. Smith adjourned the meeting at 3:06
p.m.
