SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Senior Kelly Anderson (Gahanna,
OH/Gahanna HS) recorded a pair of wins Saturday afternoon
to lead the nationally ranked Slippery Rock University women s
tennis team to a 5-0 whitewashing of visiting Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference rival Shippensburg University.
Anderson and partner Justine Miller (so.,
Roseto/Bangor Area HS) won the No. 3 doubles match by an
8-2 score before Anderson recorded a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5
singles.
The Rock, ranked 29th in the latest ITA Division II national
ranking, improved its 2002-03 record to 12-2 behind a clean sweep
of the doubles matches.
The No. 1 doubles team of sisters Christy and Ashley Michaux
(Jeannette/Jeannette HS) won a 9-7 decision after
trailing 7-6, while the No. 2 tandem of senior Ella Reilly
(Randwick, Australia/Fahan HS) and junior Jessica
Bungo (Indiana/Indiana HS) won an 8-0 decision.
The final Rock win came at No. 6 singles as sophomore Leslie
Noll (Schaefferstown/Elco HS) was a 6-2, 6-1 winner.
The Rock returns to action Monday when it hosts PSAC rival Edinboro
University in a 2:30 p.m. match.
