INDIANA SWEEPS TWINBILL FROM ROCK SOFTBALL
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Indiana University of Pa. won 6-1
and 9-3 decisions Saturday afternoon to sweep a Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference-Western Division softball doubleheader from
hosting Slippery Rock University.
IUP
(16-12, 7-3) had 12 hits in the first game and nine in the second
game. The Rock (8-18, 1-9) had eight and nine hits in the
respective games.
Lauren Lyle had three hits to lead IUP’s first-game
attack while Julie Huebner picked up two RBIs. Jodie
Swavely (9-5) was the winning pitcher.
Shannon Bullard (Boyertown/Boyertown HS) had two
hits for SRU.
Erica Templin, Rikki Snyder and Missy McLaughlin
had two hits each for IUP in the second game. Sarah Knill
(5-4) picked up the win in relief of starter Katie
Harbaugh.
Alicia Caranese
(Greensburg/Central Catholic HS) was 3-for-3 for
SRU.
Niki Cothran (Kansas City, Mo./Sumner Academy) was the
losing pitcher in the first game; she fell to 2-5 on the year.
Shannon Tagliaferri (Williamsport/Loyalsock Township
HS) lost the second game to fall to 1-5.
The Rock travels
to Edinboro for a 3 p.m. PSAC-West doubleheader on Wednesday.
