ROCK WOMEN’S TENNIS IN P.S.A.C. TITLE MATCH
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Slippery Rock University blanked
Indiana U. of Pa., 5-0, Friday morning to advance to the
championship match of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
tournament.
The
top-seeded Rock, 17-2 on the year, will meet the tournament’s
host team and No. 2 seed Bloomsburg in the title match
Saturday.
The
Rock nipped Bloomsburg, 5-4, in a dual match in early March in
Hilton Head Island, S.C.
The women’s
title match will follow the conclusion of the men’s title
match between Bloomsburg and Kutztown at 9 a.m. Bloomsburg led in
that match, 3-0, when a rain shower halted action Friday
afternoon.
The
women’s final was originally scheduled to be played Friday
afternoon as well but was postponed due to inclement weather.
The
Rock women seek their first conference title since 1981 and third
in the history of the program. SRU won back-to-back titles in 1980
and 1981.
The
Rock women tied for third place in last year’s conference
tournament. Bloomsburg earned runner-up honors in both 2001 and
2002 after sharing the team title in 2000.
