ROCK SPRING FOOTBALL SCRIMMAGE SATURDAY

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –Slippery Rock University’s football team will conclude its spring workouts on Saturday, April 26, with an 11 a.m. intrasquad scrimmage at Slippery Rock Area High School.

The Green and White Game will feature a controlled scrimmage between the team’s offensive and defensive units and is scheduled to include four quarters of action.

Rock head coach Dr. George Mihalik has six offensive starters, six defensive starters and one kicking specialist returning from his 2002 team. The Rock had a 7-4 record last fall to record its 12 successive winning season – the longest active streak in the 14-team Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Among the returning players are 2002 All-PSAC-Western Division selections Bill Ricks (senior, offensive center, Connellsville/Connellsville HS) and Brian Godfrey (junior, defensive tackle, Springdale/Springdale HS).

The Rock will open its 2003 season on September 6 with a road game at perennial NCAA Division I-AA national power Youngstown State.

The 2003 home opener will be September 13 when non-conference rival Gannon University invades Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium for the inaugural game on a yet-to-be-installed artificial-turf surface.
