WHITE
DEFEATS GREEN IN SPRING FOOTBALL GAME
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The offense
led by a pair of red shirt freshman defeated the defense in the
annual Green and White game by a score of 32-26.
Luke McCaffrey (Prospect/Slippery
Rock)completed 11 of 12
passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns and wide receiver
Brandon Rakszawski (Allison Park/Hampton) caught five passes
for 110 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown on a swing pass from
McCaffrey late in the game.
The defense jumped out
to an early lead in the first half. Defensive backs Seth
Randall (North East/North East) and Kevin Johnston
bothed picked off passes in the second quarter. Nose tackle
Brian Godfrey (Springdale/Springdale) gave the defense a
huge lift when he recovered a fumble at the 6-yard line and rumbled
in for the touchdown.
The biggest play of the
day was running back Brandon Lehmeier’s
(Pittsburgh/Shaler) 56-yard off-tackle touchdown run that gave
the offense its final margin of victory.
A strong field goal
kicking performance by John Katsaouni (Kipchener, Ont./Forest
Heights) was also a key in the offense’s comeback
victory. Katsaouni drilled a 46-yard and 47-yard field goal
during the game.
Seniors Bill Ricks
(Connellsville/Connellsville) and Jesse Kelly (Fernandina
Beach, FL) were named team captains and participated in the
opening coin flip.
