SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Kelly Steward and Carli Brunner scored two goals each to lead visiting Shippensburg University (7-1, 5-1) to a 7-0 win over Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women’s field hockey action Saturday at Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

The game was the first played by The Rock on the newly installed AstroPlay artificial playing surface. The Rock’s former home, Patricia Zimmerman Field, had a natural grass playing surface.

The following day, SRU dropped a 3-0 decision at East Stroudsburg (7-2, 5-2).

The losses dropped The Rock to 1-6 overall, 1-5 in PSAC play.

Shippensburg outshot SRU by a 47-8 margin, while East Stroudsburg enjoyed a 22-7 advantage in shots taken.

The Rock returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Erie to take on Mercyhurst in a 4 p.m. game. SRU returns home on Saturday, Sept. 27, to host PSAC rival Indiana U. of Pa. in a 1 p.m. game on DiSpirito Field.
